The Artificial Inseminations (AI) facility is made available to more than 80% Breedable Cattle and Buffaloes in the State through 6031 Artificial Insemination Centers. These included 2987 Animal Husbandry Department Institutions, 2636 Gopalamitra Centers, 408 other Institutions (Dairy Union, BAIF, RASS, JK Trust & Veterinary College) Centers. 41.24 lakh Artificial Inseminations were conducted and 15.31 lakh Improved Progeny born during the 2015-16. 7.60 lakh Artificial Inseminations were conducted and 3.25 lakh Improved Progeny born upto June, 2016 during the year 2016-17.

Role of Gopalamitras (Private A.I. Worker) :

  • The educated unemployed rural youth are being selected and trained for a period of 4 months in Artificial Insemination as Gopalamitras.
  • At present, 2636 Gopalamitras are functioning covering 2-3 villages per GM offering AI services at Farmer’s Door Step.

  • During 2015-16, Gopalamitras have conducted 21.10 Lakh inseminations and produced 7.77 Lakh improved progeny.

  • A monthly sustenance allowance of Rs.3500/- is being paid to Gopalamitrasbased on Slab system & performance of GMs.

  • Besides Artificial Insemination, Gopalamitra will also offer First Aid & Vaccination Services.

  • Gopalamitras also promote various Government sponsored programmes like Livestock Insurance, PTP.
