FROZEN SEMEN BANK, NANDYAL
Following the creation of APLDA, the institution was transferred to the control of Andhra Pradesh Livestock Development Agency (APLDA) with effect from 01-09-2000 as per G.O.Ms.No.85 Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries (A.H.III) Department Dated: 02-08-1999.
The Frozen Semen Bank, Nandyal has 15.07 Acres of Land. At present the FSB, Nandyal is maintaining 71 breeding bulls of different breeds Viz., India’s pride bull i.e Ongole, Crossbred Jersey and Black gold of India i.e Murrah breeding bulls. The unit is producing about 20 lakh FS doses per annum. This unit is ISO certified producing FS doses as per the procedures laid down by Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai. The FSB, Nandyal was evaluated and graded as “A” by Central Monitoring Unit for producing disease free and quality semen as per Minimum Standard Protocol circulated by Government of India.
The FSB, Nandyal is headed by one Deputy Director (AH) who is assisted by technical, ministerial and daily wage workers.
At present, Dr K. Rangaiah, Assistant Director (AH) is acting as In-charge Deputy Director (AH), FSB, Nandyal.
FROZEN SEMEN BANK, Visakhapatnam
History of The Institution:
The FSBS, Visakhapatnam was initially established for producing chilled semen in the
year 1961-62.
In the year 1976 it was converted to produce Frozen Semen.Received technical and financial assistance (Equipment) from Indo Swiss Project as well as NDDB (TMDD).
Quality Policy:
The Frozen Semen Bull Stations (FSBSs) together with Andrology Laboratory are committed to
produce and supply frozen semen doses meeting the minimum standards protocol approved by
the Government of India to District Frozen Semen Depots for genetic improvement of Cattle and
Buffaloes. The FSBS’s would continually strive to improve the quality of semen to meet fullest
satisfaction of customer
Quality Objectives:
Supply of adequate number of FS doses of desired breeds on time.Constantly/Regularly monitoring of number of sperm per dose of FS.
To develop a data base and eliminate bulls of low fertility and producing high percent of male
calves.
Frozen Semen:
The semen doses produced at our station are as per the Minimum Standard Protocol (MSP) laid
down by Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) constituted by Government of India, New Delhi. The
Semen Freezing Laboratory is certified for ISO-9001-2008 for its quality management system.
Semen collection, dilution, packaging, freezing, storage, and handling procedures are improvised
and standardized along with intensive in-house research.
Laboratory space, equipment, raw semen and frozen semen doses are monitored by Quality
Control Laboratory to achieve production of frozen semen doses as per international standards.
Semen Packing:
The Frozen semen doses are available in French Mini (0.25 ml) straws and packing of FS doses in
different sizes of goblets i.e., 10, 20 and 70 done by automatic counting machine ensures supply of
frozen semen doses in versatile packing system and fulfills the demands of different customers
as per their convenience. As per the clients request semen straws are also being supplied in
goblets in bulk.
